CES 2013: ASUS AiO P1801 tablet transforms between Android OS and Windows 8
By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
Las Vegas: The ASUS AiO P1801 is an 18-inch multi-touch tablet. It is also a dockable desktop and it runs Windows 8 Professional as well as Android OS. This is a true transformer, the best of both worlds and one of the most exciting products coming out of the CES 2013 show floor.
A powerful concept, the ASUS AiO P1801 can work as an Android tablet for low-impact computing tasks such as email, surfing, ebook reading, and casual gaming. In this mode, it would enjoy the speed and portability of a mobile OS as well as conserve valuable battery life. In tablet form, the ASUS AiO runs on a Tegra 3 processor.
Get to your office or home and dock the ASUS AiO and it transforms into a fully-functional and touch enabled Windows Pro PC featuring the latest Intel Core i5 processors and all the benefits of a Windows PC. Including expansion slots for all sorts of I/O and peripherals galore.
More than just a cool concept, I see the ASUS AiO P1801 as a transcendent device, the Silver Bullet for the BYOD crowd and the truest Transformer and all-in-one device we've seen. Users can use the Android tablet while on the go or even at home when a full-size computer isn't required and then plug-in at work and get the full-PC experience.
Some may argue that an 18-inch tablet is too big and that's true but for the purposes of this concept it works. A smaller tablet would necessitate a separate monitor and additional cost.
What's most intriguing about the ASUS AiO P1801 is that it shows us where all computers are eventually headed. Mobile and desktop operating systems will co-exist and run on demand depending on the situation and necessity. No pricing or availability has been announced for Canada yet but this is too good a concept to not put into mass production and truly an exciting and groundbreaking application of tablet and desktop technology.
