HP gunning for Nexus 7 with the Slate 7 tablet

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The last time HP released a tablet with a mobile OS, things didn't go so well. So HP has allegedly sold webOS to LG and shifted alliances to Google's Android platform and wants to compete in the budget 7-inch Android tablet space where Google's Nexus 7 is considered the most popular device. Will this signify HP's comeback in mobile devices?

The Slate 7 device features an unremarkable 600x1024 HFFS display, 1GB of RAM and a dual-core 1.6GHz processor. 8GB of on-board storage can be expanded through a micro-SD card slot, a three megapixel rear-facing camera and a VGA-resolution front-facing camera. Biggest feature seems to be pricing said to start at $169. How will HP fare in this market against other low cost tablet makers, only time will tell.
