Diamond Taxicab launches iOS app for booking and tracking cabs in Toronto
Diamond Taxicab makes it easier and faster for Toronto residents to get a dependable taxi with the Diamond Taxicab app. Among other features, the free app lets passengers book, track in realtime, and rate rides from Diamond Taxicab's fleet of more than 650 licensed drivers.
Diamond Taxicab is the first full-service dispatch company in Toronto to launch its own app integrated with cars' GPS. Users can find a nearby taxi with the app's live map of available taxis and request a cab with two clicks, bypassing the phone queue. After making a request, users can monitor their taxi's realtime location and estimated arrival time.
"We started developing the app last spring to give passengers as much transparency as possible into the status of their trips," said Diamond Taxicab president, Jim Bell.
The Diamond Taxicab app communicates directly with the company's dispatch system, ensuring that drivers and vehicles are licensed and giving passengers the added confidence of having support from Diamond Taxicab's 24/7 customer service centre.
Unlike other Toronto taxi apps that charge drivers up to 15% of app fares, accepting fares from the Diamond app will not cost its drivers extra.
The iPhone app launch is accompanied by the launch of Diamond Taxicab's online booking website, which also displays a live map of Diamond Taxicab's available taxis. Android and Blackberry 10 apps will launch later spring.
The Diamond Taxicab app was developed by the Toronto based tech company Fleetbit (previously HireWinston), which builds apps for taxi companies across Canada and the US.
The app is available for download in the iTunes App Store.
