Apple iWatch trademark secured in multiple countries

Concept created by The GuardianApple has secured the 'iWatch' trademark in a number of countries including Japan, Russia and Mexico among others. This fuels speculation that Apple is getting into the emerging wearable computing industry and looking to develop another niche in consumer electronics. While trademarking a possible product name is never a guarantee that a product launch is around the corner, the iconic iPod was first discovered through similar trademark filings.

Apple discontinued the iPod Touch model that could be worn as a watch despite it being a popular seller and having an accessory ecosystem developed around it. The speculation surrounding an iWatch device has been surging with various concept renderings appearing online even if Apple has never confirmed that it is getting into the wearable computing space. "It's an area where it's ripe for exploration," Apple CEO Tim Cook said on at the All Things Digital Conference earlier this year when asked abput wearable computing.
