Gmail bids old full-screen compose window goodbye

Whether you like it or not, the new compose window for Gmail is here to stay. Google announced in a Google+ post that the compose window is finally rolling out to everyone and the old full-screen compose window is out the door (or should it be out the window?).

But you can still get the full-screen experience when writing your emails. You just need to click on the expand button at the top right of the new compose window and set that as default by clicking “Default to full-screen” in the More options menu at the bottom right corner of the window.

Is that really full-screen? Doesn't look like it to me. They've greyed out all the space in the background, so it's totally dead-space. Bring back the old one. I'm not a kid, and I don't "tweet" or "hangout" with my boss. I send him emails. Poor. Very, very poor.

The new format is no where near as handy as the original. WHY CHANGE IT.
Just presented as a fait acompli. Typical Big Brother approach. 1984 here we come.

The new compose/reply are a disaster—I don't want to have to an engage in an armful of extra mouse clicks just to reveal vital information or features which were instantly available in the old interface.

Fine, Google, add it as a "quick" compose facility if you must.

But PLEASE give us the choice as to which we use...
