eBay factoids for National Video Game Day

National Video Game Day is upon us! This Thursday, September 12, is for all of you video game aficionados out there and you have every right to celebrate the fun day particularly with the investment you put into these games.

Last year alone, Canadians have purchased over 900,000 video games on eBay and have spent about $20 million to acquire these games. And it wasn’t just for the up-and-coming titles; over $1 million was spent on eBay to buy “nostalgic” video games like Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Kart, Legends of Zelda and Tetris, which was 30 percent more than the purchases for nostalgic games in 2011. We have a few more factoids for you after the jump.

  • Two video games are purchased every minute on eBay in Canada.
  • Nearly $3 million has been spent by Canadians on video games on eBay using mobile devices in 2012.
  • The most expensive game bought on eBay last year was a 1985 factory-sealed original Mario Brothers game. It was bought for over $7,500.

How will you be celebrating National Video Game Day?
