MakerBot Mobile places the power of 3D printing on your iPhone
MakerBot Mobile has been released. This iOS app places the MakerBot 3D Ecosystem right in the palm of your hand – on your smartphone! MakerBot Mobile is the first mobile app that gives you the power to monitor and control a MakerBot Replicator® Desktop 3D Printer and access all things MakerBot from a mobile device.
The free MakerBot Mobile app uses the power of cloud computing to access your personal 3D printing library and Thingiverse, and to print files on Fifth Generation MakerBot Replicator® 3D Printers, which include the MakerBot Replicator Desktop 3D Printer, the MakerBot Replicator Mini Compact 3D Printer and the soon to be released MakerBot Replicator Z18 3D Printer. To download MakerBot Mobile, visit the app store on iTunes.
“MakerBot Mobile is the culmination of years of work to help make 3D printing even easier and more accessible”
MakerBot believes MakerBot Mobile will enhance convenience and ease throughout the entire 3D printing workflow. With MakerBot Mobile, files can be prepared for 3D printing right from the MakerBot Cloud Library. MakerBot Mobile does all the work, so all the user has to do is confirm the print to start 3D printing on a Fifth Generation MakerBot Replicator. Once the print starts, the user can monitor the 3D printing process via a local network and easily access features such as pause and cancel.
“MakerBot Mobile is the culmination of years of work to help make 3D printing even easier and more accessible,” noted Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “MakerBot is all about creating a 3D Ecosystem that puts access to 3D printing and scanning at your fingertips. We want to make 3D printing fun and easy for everyone, of every skill level. Offering interactive and mobile apps, such as MakerBot Mobile, is one way we can work toward reaching toward this goal."
One of the key conveniences of MakerBot Mobile is the ability to access the more than 300,000 downloadable digital designs available on Thingiverse.com. Other key features include 3D print preparation, real-time print monitoring via the on-board camera on a Fifth Generation MakerBot Replicator 3D Printer, and printing workflow notifications to a registered mobile device. With MakerBot Mobile, users can also add models to collections on Thingiverse or upload and easily share images of 3D prints on social networks. MakerBot Mobile will also let you know when someone else downloads, 3D prints and then posts an “I Made One” photo of one of your designs. Additional features, such as notifications for print completion and filament attention, as well as full remote monitoring on 3G and 4G mobile networks, are coming soon to MakerBot Mobile.
