Microsoft hopes to get more kids to learn code through #CodeGeneration campaign

Hoping to curb youth unemployment and get more people into the Canadian IT sector, Microsoft is introducing the #CodeGeneration movement. They want to inspire Canadian youth (ages 13 to 18) to learn to code starting today until Computer Science Education Week (December 7 – 13).

The two ways Microsoft is helping kids get into coding are:

  • Coding challenges. Through CodeGeneration.ca, Microsoft will be issuing coding challenges through the next five weeks to teach them the basics of coding. Those who complete these weekly challenges get points that will help them win prizes. Parents and teachers also have access to resources to help lead the students through the challenges.
  • Hour of Code sessions. Microsoft Stores across Canada, in support of Code.org, will be hosting coding sessions during the Computer Science Education Week to give everyone a chance to learn the basics of coding.
