New MacBook is a no show in some stores, proving it is a rare bird

While a lot of the attention has been focused on Apple Watch, the new 12-inch MacBook was supposed to be available for order and sale in stores today as well. While waiting to get into the Apple Store this morning for the Watch there were a few people who showed up wanting to buy the new super-sleek and super-innovative MacBook, but none were available in store.
While the MacBook, which is the first Apple portable to be sold in the three iPhone colours of Gold, Silver and Space Grey, is available for purchase online, shipping times reflect a 3-4 week wait period before shipping.
I did get to very briefly check out another reporter's Space Grey review unit and was very impressed at what the MacBook has to offer, it really is the most portable notebook Apple has ever made and is insanely thin and light.
The Force Touch trackpad, which has no mechanical parts but simulates clicking through sensors, works as advertised and the new keyboard isn't as bad as I'd feared.
Expensive, specialized and representing the bleeding edge of portable computing, the new MacBook isn't for your everyday notebook user but there's a clear demand for an ultraportable Mac that's also a thing of beauty and this is one new product category for Apple that may surprise even its harshest critics in terms of sales.
