CONTEST: Enter for a chance to WIN a Digifest Festival Pass
The world's top digital and design innovators are coming to Toronto for Digifest from May 7 to May 9, 2015. Digifest, presented by George Brown College, is Canada's premiere international, digital culture festival focused on the future of digital innovation. More than 25 leading-edge experts and speakers from around the world will converge at this year's event to discuss the role and importance of this year's theme of "Money, Privacy, Pleasure."
Digifest was founded in 2002 and is now a highly-anticipated annual event featuring some of the world's most visionary tech leaders and showcases exciting new innovations that are driving trends today. It's purpose is to bring industry, academia and the public together to learn and celebrate the latest in digital creativity from around the world.
"Money, Privacy, Pleasure" three-day event will highlight the latest digital tools that are faciliating creative solutions and connecting people and networks that impact economies, personal privacy and daily life.
Programming and event overview:
Money: Cryptocurrencies, also known as digital currencies, challenge basic aspects of modern money by being stateless, easily transferred across borders, finite in quantity and more transparent. Bitcoin was the world’s first cryptocurrency, and remains the best-known. Digifest speakers, including Anthony Di Iorio, Founder of Decentral and the Bitcoin Alliance of Canada, and Patricia de Vries, part of the MoneyLab research project in the Netherlands, will explore the opportunities and disruption that comes with digital money and deep dive into how they will shape our future.
Privacy: Surveillance is nothing new, but it’s happening in new ways, and on a larger scale. With constant debates about the violation of personal privacy, it’s time to address what can be done at an individual level, and how society can renegotiate our value of privacy. This year’s presenters, including Dr. Steve Mann, Professor at the University of Toronto, and Sukanya Pillay, Executive Director and General Counsel for the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and Education Trust, will address privacy issues concerning surveillance, proactive privacy settings, and your digital privacy at home.
Pleasure: Enjoyment, entertainment, sensation – the search for pleasure fills the smallest slivers of our day – and now technology grants us constant access to these pleasures. Digital media and content are continuously changing, and Digifest speakers, including Trevor Haldenby, CEO of The Mission Business, and Nastaran Dadashi from George Brown College, will examine how society experiences pleasure through media now, and how that will evolve in the future.
On Saturday, May 9th, don't miss the Startup Market showcasing local entreprenuers and tech startups of lifestyle products in health and fitness, food, games for adults or kids, eLearning, SmartHomes, photography and more.
Digifest takes place from May 7 to May 9 at the innovative Corus Quay Building on Toronto's Waterfront, 25 Dockside Drive, Toronto
