First look at the ASUS Zenfone 2

Photos by Maarten Heilbron

New York: The new ASUS Zenfone 2, which comes to Canada tomorrow as an unlocked Android smartphone from sellers like Newegg.ca, is definitely worth checking out. Not only is this the first device from ASUS to come to North America, the Zenfone 2 is bringing top-tier specs and innovatie features like Dual-SIM capability and Intel's latest mobile processors.

And while the Zenfone 2's notable feature set and mix of power and flexibility make it more than a curiosity in the highly-competitive flagship smartphone game, its off-contract availability as well as more affordable price range as well as the variety of textured backplates and different looks should make this an interesting option to anyone looking for an affordable smartphone that doesn't under deliver.

Personally, I am interested to see how ASUS's first salvo in the North American smartphone market pans out. They definitely went for the ambitious play and seem to have placed their best foot forward and hopefully this gets them noticed as well as spurs on other manufacturers like Lenovo, Huawei, Oppo and others to attack the market with devices that offer higher-end specs and desired features at affordable price points. The Zenfone 2 looks great on paper but time and testing will tell if all the features as well as the software measure up.

We will post our first impressions of the new ASUS Zenfone 2 in the coming days as well as have a comprehensive review for this new entrant in the smartphone race. Stay tuned.
