Mercedes-Benz takes on Tesla for home batteries

We think a little competition never hurt anyone so it’s good that Mercedes-Benz is releasing its own version of a battery pack for the home. These battery packs are designed like Tesla’s in that they’re filled with cells designed for cars at first. They load up on solar energy that you can store overnight and draw from the gird during off-peak hours. You can combine up to eight packs, which have 2.5kWh each. Mercedes-Benz is also said to be offering higher storage options for larger consumption.

It’ll be available starting September in Germany through the company’s subsidiary Accumotive. They’re taking registrations for it now. There is no word on pricing yet though.
