Tough it out with Sonim’s rugged smartphones

There are certain working environments that need you to have tough equipment with you. That’s why Sonim Technologies developed two new rugged handsets—the XP7 and XP5 smartphones. These are built to be resistant to things like dust, water, oil, chemicals, temperature, drops, and extreme pressure. You can use them with work gloves and come with extra loud speakers and noise cancellation technology. Buyers can get them with a three-year comprehensive warranty.

The XP7 comes built with a 4-inch WVGA display with Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection and glove touch capability. It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of internal storage, and 1GB of RAM. Connectivity options include LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, and NFC. It has a 4,800mAh battery.

The XPS5 runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz processor, 4GB internal storage, 1GB of RAM, and a proprietary OS. It’s equipped with LTE connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, and 3,180mAh battery. It has a 2.4-inch QVGA display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The XP7 is available at Bell for $199.99 with a two-year contract or $649.99 without a contract. It’s also available a Telus for $200 with a two-year plan or $750 without a contract. Meanwhile, the XP5 is available for $199.95 for a two-year contract with Bell or $399.95 without a contract. It’s also coming to Telus and Sasktel in the fall.
