CES 2016: Naughty America banks on VR for the future of adult entertainment
Adult entertainment and the porn industry has always spearheaded technology such as streaming video, high definition video and various web and cloud applications. VR is high on the list of hot technologies at CES this year and the adult entertainment industry is jumping right in for what could be a very profitable game changer.
“Customers want to get as close to reality as they can without reality getting in the way. That’s where technologies like 4K and now VR become so important. VR and adult content make a perfect match,"says Ian Paul, Naughty America’s CIO.
Having already made thousands of its fantasies available in mobile and 4K Ultra HD formats, Naughty America has led the way again, by releasing its original titles in VR to industry acclaim.
Naughty America’s VR content is formatted for 180-degree stereoscopic head tracking using a VR headset. Viewers are immersed directly into the scene, elevating the experience to a completely new level.
VR has a relatively small market share today – about 1-2% of the overall market for adult content – although, even a small percentage of the $8 - $10 billion adult video industry is significant. But, the adult VR market is on a high growth trajectory. Naughty America predicts that by the end of 2016, 10-20 million people will view adult VR content at least once a month.
“The entire history of porn has been trying by whatever means available to arrive at this type of experience, and now it’s here. This is a huge leap forward,” adds Paul.
