Tap-to-pay functionality slated for next generation of Android Wear

Upcoming Android Wear devices might be getting some feature parity with the Apple Watch once Tap-to-Pay functionality comes to Google's wearable platform. In order for this to happen, the devices will likely need to run the next version of Android Wear (slated for next year) as well as have a smartwatch with an NFC chip.

The bigger issue is where can this mobile payment feature be used. Unlike Apple, who has chipped away these past three years rallying various banks, credit card companies and retailers to adopt Apple Pay, Google's mobile payments initiative has been somewhat stunted and limited to a few locations.

The news of Tap-to-pay coming to Android Wear comes from the apk of Google Play Services 10.0, Android Police has discovered strings of text that directly refer to Android Pay, as well as instructions for offering the device back up to a payment terminal in the event of a failed payment.
