How has Netflix impacted our modern day romance?

Did you hear about that Airbnb apartment that's Netflix themed? Funny but...Anyway....

We've all snicker when our friends say that they plan to "Netflix and Chill" -- you know what that means, right? Well, as far as my parent friends are concerned they really are simply wanting to stuff their faces with popcorn and get comfortable in their softest flannel pajamas. 

As we head into the weekend of "love" (you remembered, right?) Netflix Canada released some interesting results from a recent survey on how their streaming services has impacted their "romantic lives." 

Understanding not only what couples stream together but how they use the service has resulted in some interesting insights...

DATING SCENE...

When it comes to courting and dating profiles, 53% have added TV shows or specific movie genres to their dating profile to attract potential suitors. 

77% of online dating users say they discuss movies and TV shows as ice-breakers on first dates.

42% have or would ask someone out based solely on show-compatibility and 73% of actually agreed to going on a date because the other person had similar taste in shows. 

STARTING TO GET SERIOUS....

One in three of respondents feel that sharing their Netflix account is a big setp toward a "serious" relationship.

6 in 10 people say they prefer to stay in and watch Netflix for a date night. 

77% say they watch Netflix together to spend more time together without leaving the house.

68% say shows are more fun when they watch together.

YOU MUST BE IN LOVE...

71% say they negotiate with their spouse when deciding which shows to watch with nearly half of them say they use the "show for show" tactic. 

Romantic comedies are the top choice for couples to watch together (56%) and action thrillers are seond choice at 54%.

Hey honey, I'm all for a Netflix and Chill kind of weekend...with the right movie. Choose wisely.
