Review: Lola headphones by Blue
By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
Blue is a popular maker of microphones and audio equipment and they have recently launched their Lola headphones which combine advanced ergonomics with custom drivers to enable a set of studio-quality headphones that can replicate music and audio as accurately as possible.
Out of the box the Lola headphones look and feel large but are surprisingly lightweight. A unique articulating design ensures great fit and comfort for all types of users. Blue has really redesigned the age old way headphones adjust and fit, instead of the more familiar sliding mechanisms or spring headband mechanisms to ensure good fit, we now have a multi-joined suspension that fluidly adjusts to heads of all sizes and as a result creates a seal of sound that's as good as I've experienced on a set without active noise isolation.
Blue addresses two of the biggest problems with over the ear headphones, fit and comfort. After using the Lola headphones for extended hours listening to music from various sources as well as using them in a makeshift studio setup to conduct teleconferences, I found their light weight and good fit exceptional.
Sound quality is impressive and with good range and depth. There are no exaggerated bass lows or tinny highs which many of the trendier, fashion focused headsets seem to have plus voice and instruments sound clear and clean consistently. I have no shortage of headphones and earbuds that I can choose to use and the Lola has become my default for editing sound and video as well as for playing back my favourite music from various sources including CDs, iPods and streaming music services. The secret weapon here are the custom 50mm drivers that deliver incredible range of sound.
The mix of quality materials, a truly innovative design and construction and the feel and audio quality of the Lola headphones by Blue really brings a new paradigm in terms of what we can expect our headphones to deliver.
While the Lola headphones are rather full-sized, which might not make them ideal for travel (although Blue includes a nice satchel in the box fot just that purpose), they should satisfy most audiophiles or anyone who needs professional quality headphones for creating and enjoying content.
Lola's innovative design, great fit and sound quality makes it a great option for almost any audio playback application. While it may not be ideal for use in sports or workout situations, I have little doubt that the Lola headphones by Blue will satisfy even the most demanding users.
