Review: Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer
By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
We're taking more photos than ever and sharing them at an exponential rate via apps and online services like Flickr and Instagram, but a large majority of our photos remain stuck and forgotten inside our smartphones, cameras and SD Cards. Epson's SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer is the ideal tool for prosumer photographers and anyone who wants to make clear, large format prints of their photos.
The SureColor P600 is a large and heavy printer and may not be ideal for a home office setup unless you have an abundance of space. Setting it up is also more complicated than most consumer printers because there are a number of precise steps to get it up and running. There are also nine colour cartridges (Photo Black, Cyan, Vivid Magenta, Yellow, Light Cyan, Vivid Light Magenta, Light Black, Matte Black, Light Light Black) which enable a wide range of depth and colour accuracy for your photos.
The strength of the Epson SureColor P600 is that it can print vivid photos on a number of types of media including canvas, art boards and DVD, CDS.
The Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer can also print out wide-format images in landscape form, which should delight people who shoot panoramas or who take the time to stitch photos together to create immersive images.
I was able to use the Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer to print out images from various sources. Scanned black and white film prints, photos from my Sony NEX 6 and NEX 7 work cameras as well as various photos shot from smartphones. Outputting most of my images from Apple Photos and Lightroom allowed me to tweak the images for maximum quality and resolution.
The Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer produces consistently accurate photos with rich colours and dark blacks. You can even opt for glossy or matte black as needed, which is a great feature when used with compatible photo paper.
Aside from its versatility, I likes the ease of connectivity that the Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer offers and found myself looking for some of my photos from various devices. Having the ability to use SD card slot, USB or even wireless Bluetooth or Wi-Fi printing makes it even easier to make great prints from all those awesome photos sitting on your devices.
While a bit pricey (SRT of $960) and geared towards the prosumer category, the Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer has a lot of tricks up its sleeves and produces exquisite and accurately coloured images that look very professional provided the source image is solid and a certain degree of calibration is done to ensure the best response on various media.
While it is priced out of the budget of most users and beginners plus is also quite large, I see the Epson SureColor P600 Wide Format inkjet printer as a viable tool for prosumer photographers or creatives who need to churn out quality colour prints in unusual sizes.
