Google launches app the helps you monitor and stop data use of other apps

For longtime Android users, the feature of the new Google app isn’t news for you. But if you want a simpler way to manage your data, Google officially launched Datally. It’s designed to help you see where your data is going and help you cut down where you need to. It can show you things like which apps use the most data and at what time the data is being used up. It can recommend ways on how you can cut down your data usage based on your activity.

There’s a big button at the top of the app that will let you stop all background data usage, making only the app you currently have onscreen running and using your mobile data. Datally also has a chat-head style bubble that shows up to let you know how much data the current app is using. If you just want to limit specific apps, Datally will let you control those on an app by app basis, too. The app can also suggest nearby Wi-Fi networks you can connect to.

Datally was developed as part Google’s Next Billion Users initiative, which is a project that hopes to make Google products more usable for countries with limited mobile connections and where lower-end hardware are more widespread. But it can also be helpful for you, if you’re the type of user who always seems to be hitting your data cap.
