Nintendo discontinued nostalgic NES Classic to focus on its future

The Nintendo NES Classic appealed to the market that grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s. With its appealing price tag of US$59.99 and nostalgia factor, those kids—who are now full-fledged adults—wanted a piece of their past. But we know how that played, Nintendo has already discontinued that line. It was supposed to just be a holiday special offer but with the demand, they tried to push out more shipments.

Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aimé spoke frankly about why it isn’t coming back, though. He mentions in a recent interview, “Even with that extraordinary level of performance, we understand that people are frustrated about not being able to find the system, and for that we really do apologize. But from our perspective, it’s important to recognize where our future is and the key areas that we need to drive. We’ve got a lot going on right now and we don’t have unlimited resources.”

Whether you like it or not, it seems right for Nintendo to focus its attention to its new devices like the Switch and the upcoming Nintendo 2DS XL. You can’t blame them for wanting to look at how their future can grow instead of focusing on what they’ve done before. If you couldn’t get your hands on one, there are different ways to try and re-create the experience. It would just need a bit of research and some tinkering on your part.
