MEC launches new website that inspires city folks to get outside

One of Canada's most cherished outdoor specialty retailers, MEC, has officially launched a new website that aims to inspire and enable users to get outside more. GoodTimesOutside.ca helps individuals and families source activities by filtering needs and wants based on vibe, ability, location and duration.

Launched just in time for Canada 150+ celebrations, GoodTimesOutside.ca is a MEC-vetted resource for city-dwellers to discover fresh outdoor experiences right in their own backyards. Designed to break down the barriers that may have kept people from heading outdoors, users can filter even skill-level to make activites more practical.

The site features low-barrier activities based around hiking, biking, running, camping, watersports and climbing, all within a few hours of an urban centre. Advice and gear recommendations from local MEC staff experts can also assist users for their outdoor experiences including selecting a tent site, mandatory paddling gear, how to make the best cup of coffee outdoors, and even tips on how to camp and hike responsibly.

A unique feature is the ability to cater to a desired vibe -- looking for something more adventurous, challenging or want to escape the concrete jungle for just a little quiet time with nature? Searching the possibilities is definitely inspiring!

Just a few ideas we've come across....Cave hunters can explore the crevices and cliffs at Mono Cliffs Provincial Park in the Niagara Escarpment and discover the park's seven trails covering different terrains. Sleep in a secluded mountain valley in the Big Elbow Provincial Recreational Area in British Columbia. Follow a 4k road running route that is home to the Formula 1 race in Montreal.

In addition to the self-guided activities, the site also includes organized events across Canada - think major festivals, pop-up events like local bike crawls and hikes, as well as 25 one-of-a-kind outdoor events created by MEC Staff.

Throughout the summer users of the site will be able to join in original activities and events across the country including WayHome and The Big Feastival in Ontario, and La Grosse Lanterne and Jackalope Fest in Quebec. Pop up events are also being planned in Vancouver -- be sure to also watch for special sunrise hikes across the country on Canada's birthday with MEC Outdoor Nation partner Chasing Sunrise.
