Experiencing the LG Signature OLED W7 4K TV

They had me at wallpaper.  I had heard that LG had introduce this insanely thin TV into the marketplace and I had to see it for my own eyes. Where are the wires? How do you install this monster of a TV on the wall? At a whopping 65-inch (or 77-inch) it makes me nervous. The LG Signature W7 OLED TV is not for the faint of heart in many ways. 

LG sent over an invite to their Canadian HQ to experience what this TV has to offer. They had mentioned that after the briefing highlights on the new TV, I would have time to do whatever I choose. Netflix? Gaming? Sure...er, how about both! 

At first glance, the remarkably thin and elegant screen made my jaw-drop measuring at about 2.75 mm. Its "Picture on a Wall" design has it right flush against the wall and for me, that's a good selling feature. The more room the better for the living space. This TV would blend in really well and be one with the wall. Sorry, my zen-full moment.

"Can it actually bend?" I had to ask as there were rumours surfacing about this. Of course, not intentionally but a slight bend that could possibly happen when mounting is okay. Speaking of installing, the W7 OLED TV is mounted with strong magnets making it easier to adjust if needed. Surprisingly, the screen weighs in at about 17 lbs. Lightweight for the 65-inch indeed! But don't let that fool you. 

As we got cozy in the "living room" space I couldn't get over how bright and vivid the colours were coming from this TV. Yes, indeed it's 4K and at this size, it's rich in feel. It feels like I can get lost into what I'm watching as though I'm right part of the landscape (resolution on the 65-inch  are 3840x2160). It looks amazing and with more 4K content selection (hello Netflix!) coming out, it's a dream.

The details and colours are crystal clear and what was even more noticeable are deeper black areas within the content we were viewing. Games with darker crevices to explore seem to have much more definition and better contrast all thanks to the LG Active HDR with Dolby VisionTM. Something I didn't really know I was missing until now. And that's what I've learned with this new experience - you think you've seen it all and then you see this. 

While seeing is believing, the Signature W7 OLED also brings remarkable sound to give viewers that ultimate in-home movie theatre feeling. You'll want to hold onto your seats with the impressive Dolby Atmos sound technology delivered through the W7's soundbar, which means there are no speakers in the screen. The soundbar is also how everything else connects to the screen including HDMI inputs and USB ports. 

The TV also comes with the latest webOS 3.5 system to help search other popular content -- who's kids aren't into YouTube these days? By the way, it comes pre-installed as are several others. You can also set up your Android and Windows (but no iOS) devices to be mirrored on the screen. 

I've also noticed that updates have been made to LG's Magic Remote handset --it now comes with faster access to your favourite activities. Designated buttons such as "Netflix" allows for one-step access into the streaming service. You know, so you can get to House of Cards way faster.

There's definitely a lot more we'd want to check out with the LG's Signature OLED W7 TV but this was an impressive first look.
