How Netflix is turning everyone into an influencer

It use to be called the power, or the art, of persuasion. That is, the act of getting people to do things that they may not have initially done themselves. But today, we often hear the term "influencer" and yes, we are all influencers amongst our circle of friends, family and co-workers. We are constantly influencing, and being influenced by, others in our daily lives. We're interested in finding out ourselves if that movie was worth the Rotten Tomatoes rating or curious to try that charcoal ice cream cone that others are willingly waiting in line for. We don't want to miss out on something that sounds interesting!

Even Netflix is enabling everyday influencers. The shows are being discussed by everyone constantly from teachers to nutritionists and teenagers to neighbours. It's quite incredible to see how shows are fueled by discussion. Recently, it seems that everyone has an opinion about "What the Health?" a documentary that is filled with controversy igniting some interesting conversations. As a result from watching this, some of my friends have given up consuming meat and dairy while others are calling out it's legitimacy. Both sides are worth discussing. It's been a hot topic from lunchrooms to social media chats. Have you seen it? You definitely should.

One of the skills of "the art of persuasion" is to learn that there's a right time and a place. If a health documentary sounds too heavy for the weekend, there are other options that may work in your favour.

Netflix has created these light and fun diagrams just in case you're in a hard sell position with your family and friends. Follow the prompts to convince someone to join you in a little binge-worthy time. Pssst....planning ahead for this weekend so "Hey, let's watch Chef's Table!" may just inspire a date night out or for someone else to do the cooking!

Yes, you too can start telling others that you're an influencer too.
