Waze finally comes to Apple CarPlay
On the heels of the announcement that Google Maps is available on Apple CarPlay, crowdsourced turn-by-turn navigation app Waze has finally been made available on Apple's smart infotainment system.
Waze, the platform bringing together communities on and off the road, today announced its integration with Apple CarPlay to further its mission of decreasing traffic on the road, and making driving safer and more convenient for everyone on the road. As one of the first navigation apps on the CarPlay platform, the Waze integration will bring the millions of users on CarPlay the opportunity to seamlessly use Waze features directly from their in-car display.
Users driving cars equipped with CarPlay will be able to download the Waze app and navigate to their favorite places seamlessly. Simply by connecting their iPhone to a CarPlay supported system using a USB cable or wireless connection (if available), drivers can search destinations, select a preferred route, report traffic issues and more. The addition of Waze gives Apple CarPlay users more latitude in choosing the right navigation app for their needs.
In Toronto, Canada, Waze gathers information from various traffic cameras as well as maintains a partnership with the City of Torontoto maintain up-to-date information to motorists.
“We’re excited to bring the power of the Waze community right into drivers’ car consoles with Apple CarPlay,” said Jens Baron, Waze Product Strategy. “This enables us to bring to life one of our users’ most requested integrations, giving them the opportunity to enjoy the Waze app on the larger Apple CarPlay display.”
With Waze for CarPlay, drivers can easily navigate to the full Waze experience, including:
● Home and Work Favorites: Easily navigate in one tap to destinations pre-programmed into the Waze app.
● Organizes everything drivers need in one comprehensive viewing screen before they head out, including the ability to easily check alternate routes and adjust sound settings.
● Reporting: It’s easier than ever to help others on the road with a visual reporting menu.
● Alerts: Receive visual and audio alerts to stay informed and keep both hands on the wheel.
