Microsoft launching new Surface devices in NY on October 2nd

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

A recent invitation to media from Microsoft earmarks October 2 for a product launch event. Microsoft is expected to unveil a refreshed line of Surface devices lkely sporting the latest 8th Gen Intel Core processors. Recent discounts on Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models hint that these could be the two lines receiving updated hardware, possible inclusion of USB Type-C charging as well as improved battery life and LTE connectivity as an option.

The Surface Studio, Microsoft's ambitious 2-in-1 desktop which wowed a lot of creatives and professional users, was a big release two-years ago although it sported a rather anemic processors. Giving this line a boost, and possible offering a choice of sizes for this device, could spur some more adoption, specially for photographers, videographers and illustrators. Hit jump for an overview and analysis.

Surface is a billion dollar business for Microsoft and making sure the line is looking fresh can only be a good thing as OEMs and partners look to Surface as the template for their own computing products. Microsoft recently introduced the Surface Go, the cheapest and most portable Surface device yet, this shows that it wants to be present in as many price segments as possible. The good news for Canadians is that many of these new Surfaces will be made available in Canada at the same time as the US. So, those holding out for a new Surface can expect to have these available soon after the announcements.

The Surface event will take place in New York City on October 2 and also coincides with the release of the Windows 10 Fall 2018 update so we can expect the usual synergies of hardware, software and services to play a big part of this.
