Motorola patent suggest Razr-style foldable device with touch-sensitive sides

Motorola's take on the foldable phone might be getting another upgrade if the recently discovered patent filing is anything to go by.

It shows a clamshell form factor with a secondary screen on the outside, very similar to the recently launched foldable. But this time, the sides feature eight touch sensors that can work as virtual buttons to be pressed and swiped for different features. It can work differently and perform various functions depending on whether the phone is open or closed. There's a possibility of enabling up to 20 different gestures and features.

The patent also takes note of possibly adding a sensor on the side of the hinge. That sensor could allow for up, down, and swipe movements. All these actions are reminiscent of the Active Edge squeeze HTC and Google introduced in some of its phones.

And we see the foldable phone here gets an in-display fingerprint sensor, instead of one on the chin of the 2019 Motorola Razr.

But before you get too excited, though, we need to remind you that it's a patent for now. There is no guarantee that Motorola will bring these features to a second-generation Razr. Or we don't even know the possibility of the Razr getting another version. It still all depends on how well the soon-to-be-launched one will be received.
