Huawei P40 and P40 Pro first renders surface

We know that the Huawei P40 series will be coming in March 2020, with the launch rumoured to be happening in Paris, France. Now, we get our first look at the standard Huawei P40 and P40 Pro, which the company's CEO Richard Yu has said will feature a "never-before-seen" design. But from these renders, the phones look like they bear some resemblance to devices already out on the market.

Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks on Twitter), together with 91Mobilesshared renders of the two devices. But they didn't mention where these designs came from. So, we must remind you to take them with a grain of salt. The renders also seem to be on the dark side, so we see more of a silhouette of the phones.

The prominent feature is the rectangular camera module sticking out from the back, which we've seen on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71. The Huawei P40 is tipped to be getting four cameras at the back, while it isn't clear yet how many the Huawei P40 Pro will get.

Similar to the Huawei P30 series, the Huawei P40 will have a flat display that's either sporting a 6.1- or 6.2-inch size. Meanwhile, the Huawei P40 Pro has a curved screen that could either be a 6.5- or 6.7-inch panel with its metal frame extending to the corner of the phones. Both phones are tipped to be getting an in-display fingerprint sensor. We can't see if the handsets are getting a punch-hole or notch for the front-facing cameras, but Huawei doesn't seem to be taking the pop-up camera route here.

Both phones have USB-C ports, SIM card trays, and speaker grills at the bottom. But there will be no 3.5mm audio jack for either device.

Earlier leaks claim the Huawei P40 Pro will get a 5,500mAh battery with 50-watt fast-charge support, the new Kirin 990 processor, and an open-sourced version of Android 10 but with Huawei Mobile Services instead of Google Play Services.
