Apple's iPod Touch gets some love, updated specs

One week ahead of the Apple World Wide Developer's Conference (WWDC), Apple announced that it has updated the iPod Touch line. Currently the only iOS product sporting a 4-inch screen, the iPod Touch is an ideal device for younger children who don't need a phone, or anyone who wants access to the Apple ecosystem without spending too much.

"“We’re making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $249 CAD,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of Product Marketing. “The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.”  The new iPod Touch models look identical to the models shipped four years ago but have a lot of the improvements under the hood.

Apple A10 Fusion processor puts the power of an iPhone 7 in the iPod Touch and ensures that these devices are ripe for iOS 13 as well as upcoming AR games and apps. Considering Apple Arcade going to launch soon, these iPods could be more about games and apps than music playback.

The new iPod touch starts at $249 (CAD) for the 32GB model, $369 (CAD) for the 128GB model and $489 (CAD) for the 256GB model from apple.com, in the Apple Store app and Apple Stores, and is also available through Apple Authorized Resellers and select carriers (prices may vary). iPod touch is available in six finishes; space grey, white, gold, blue, pink and (PRODUCT)RED.
