Apple's new Mac Pro and Pro XDR Display fulfill promise to the pro class
Apple unloaded the new 2019 Mac Pro, a completely redesigned and modular workstation-class supercomputer. With the ability to be configured with 8 up to 28-core Intel Xeon processors, from 32GB to 1.5 terabytes of RAM and a wide selection of top tier graphics card, the new Mac Pro is configurable and upgradeable to suit the most demanding computing needs.
Apple also showed off a new 6K Pro XDR Display that similarly packs in a ton of specs and innovation including an optional articulating stand that can work in horizontal as well as vertical orientation. By launching the new Mac mini and iMac Pro and aiming to release the new Mac Pro and Pro XDR displays for Fall 2019, Apple has rounded out the widest and most compelling range of Mac desktop hardware in nearly seven years. Pricing of the new Mac Pro hardware is on the very high end but for serious professionals who need to crunch data, render 4K video, compile programs or mine Bitcoin, all this processing muscle allows them to take on more work.
For Apple, the new Mac Pro and Pro XDR display serves to let the rest of the industry know that the top dog is back. While the brutalist cheese grater design of the Mac Pro (purely for functional airflow cooling requirements) may be seen as garish, the colossal amount of processing power contained within the Mac Pro justifies its existence.
