Sing along to your favorite tunes on this high-end limited edition speaker from COTODAMA and YSL
Karaoke takes a high-fashion turn with this collaboration from Japanese company COTODAMA and Yves Saint Laurent. The two partnered to make a limited edition version of its Lyric Speaker Canvas. As the name suggests, it displays song lyrics while the music is playing. Revamping the silver and black design, the limited edition version is all black and features to square-ish panels placed on top of each other. When placed against a wall they look like vinyl record jackets. The rear panel serves as the actual speaker, while the one in front displays the lyrics. It’s slightly bigger than an actual record sleeve at 18.7 by 14.7 inches tall.
The front panel connects to databases like PetitLyrics to display the song lyrics in time with the song. It also analyzes the song’s mood to match the font and animation, too. So, if you’re playing a bold pop song, it’ll show blocky text. But if it can’t find the lyrics, you get abstract animations that move in sync with the music instead. You can check out how the visuals work over at COTODAMA’s site or the video below.
It connects to your devices via Wi-Fi. For iOS, it uses Airplay, Google Cast, and Spotify Connect. For Android, it connects via Google Cast and Spotify Connect. If you’re using Android, then Amazon Music, Google Play Music, Spotify, and YouTube Music are compatible. Meanwhile, the iOS version also supports Apple Music.
The specs are the same as the original except for that all-black skin. If you want that look and the Saint Laurent brand on it, it’ll cost several hundred dollars more than the original. It retails for €1,995 (approx. CA$2,930), and it is only available at Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Los Angeles and Paris.
