Review: Amazon Kindle Oasis

I brought the newest version of the Amazon Kindle Oasis (3rd generation) on my most recent getaway. A family member had questioned why I would bring another device when I could bring my phone and pretty much do everything on it. While I can add the Kindle app onto my iPhone and take it on the go, the truth is, I like to separate my enjoyment of reading from any tasks I do on my phone. This also means I less distractions and I can stay more focused on the book. I'm too easily tempted to check my emails or Instagram or Telegram on a whim. There. I admit it. Houston, we have a problem, that's a post for another time. 

eReaders have come along way. The competition in the marketplace translates to better devices for us consumers. Companies are challenged to build a better device to suit our lifestyles. Thinner, faster, and more storage are features we've come to expect. But building on the details of what else we could possibly want in our devices is where the excitement is. Here is what's worth noting on the new Amazon Kindle Oasis.

7-inch High Resolution (300 ppi) Touch Display: make this a generous amount of screen space to navigate from browser to home screen and settings. I like having the option to use the touchscreen or the two-button page turners on the side of this lightweight device. 

Comfort Grip: this device sits comfortably in one hand. With a slight back lip at the fingertips the Kindle Oasis offers a better positioning which, in turn, affords the user longer and more reading enjoyment with less worry of hand cramps. By the way, the device can be rotated to accommodate both left and right handed readers.

Adjustable Warm Light: a new feature of a warmer light makes reading easier on the eyes. The light adjusts to the environment but can still be manually controlled to set your preference. There's also no glare on the screen which means less strain on the eyes. For bedtime readers, the warmer light means easing into a better sleep... unless you're reading the latest Stephen King novel, of course. 

e-Ink Technology: "turning" pages are much faster thanks to the e-Ink technology. Most eReaders will love the device's ability to flip the pages. The first couple of days of reading on the Oasis I had to get use to the sensitivity of the touch screen. It's quick!

Waterproof: Being near water, whether it be at home in the bathtub or poolside, is where I often read. Knowing that there's a high chance of me accidentally dropping my prosecco on the device, or having is slipping out of my hands won't make me worry as much. The device has been tested to withstand quick accidental drops in water but not intended for underwater usage.

Battery Life: For the week away, the battery held really well. There was no need for recharging the device even three weeks after the initial charge. According to the info I've read, the battery can last up to six week. 

Connect to Wi-Fi: Yes, you can download the stories you want with Wi-Fi but you can also be reading on your iPhone and then switching to the Kindle Oasis without missing a beat. Both devices can sync to where you've left off. Users can also connect to their Goodreads accounts. And with Amazon Prime users have access to hundreds of ebooks and newspapers. You won't need computer access to download books. 

Look up words: stuck on a word you don't recognize, there is the ability to search up definitions by highlighting a particular word.
