Apple introduces the iPhone XR successor, iPhone 11
Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 9:34PM Aside from launching the new iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, there is also the successor to the "entry-level" iPhone XR in the form of the iPhone 11. This cheaper smartphone still has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD screen, but it's protected by a stronger glass this time. The design is almost identical to last year's model, too. But there are fun new colours for those who want variety (purple, white, green, yellow, black, and red).
Like is more expensive brothers, the change is in the iPhone 11's camera. It now has a dual 12-megapixel setup. One is a standard wide-angle camera, while the other is an ultra-wide lens that supports 2x optical zoom. The front-facing camera is now a 12-megapixel TrueDepth wide-angle camera you can rotate for landscape photos. It can take 4K/60 video as well as slow-motion clips if that's your thing.
On the software side, Apple adds multiscale tone mapping that deals with highlights differently depending on your location. The phone gets a new high-key mono portrait effect, and portrait mode now works on pets, too. Just like the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, the iPhone 11 will get Night mode.
When it comes to video, you can switch between the two cameras. There's support for 4K resolution videos up to 60fps, time-lapse, slow-mo, and a new extended dynamic range.
The iPhone 11 is powered by the latest A13 Bionic processor, too, which means it's faster and more battery efficient. The iPhone 11 promises an extra hour of battery life over the iPhone XR.
Face ID has been improved here as well. The phone's water resistance gets bumped up from IP67 to IP68 (which can handle up to two meters for 30 minutes). It comes in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options.
The iPhone 11 will be available starting September 20th, with pre-orders beginning this Friday, September 13th. The retail price starts at $979.
