New Dell XPS 13 Masterfully Designed

Having used a Dell XPS13 since Fall 2019, I’ve come to appreciate the quality and craftsmanship of the product. In 2020, Dell will release its new XPS13 refining an already well-crafted product.

Dell has fine-tuned the XPS by enhancing elements that users will immediately notice. The keyboard is edge-to-edge and has a 19% larger touchpad. The 4-sided InfinityEdge display is the 13.4-inch screen into the size of an 11-inch laptop, and is a remarkable difference boasting a 91.5% screen-to-body ratio.

The XPS 13 display backing and base are precision crafted from a block of aluminum in two pieces which adds to its durability. The XPS enclosure is sculpted by a CNC machining process. Dell has used an aerospace-inspired carbon fibre or woven glass fiber to address its goal of creating a product that is long lasting, lightweight, and cool to the touch. The premium finishing is noticeable when you first pick up the device and when resting your palms on the laptop while you work. The white woven glass palm rest is finished with a UV and stain-resistant coating so it can stay clean over time.

To compare with the previous release, I had the opportunity to put my XPS13 9380 (right side, image below) to the new 2020 Dell XPS 13 9300 and the difference was quick to spot. The size of the display and keyboard were the two factors that stood out right away.

If getting up and running quickly is important to you, the built-in sensor allows you to open the lid and power up in milliseconds. You can login with Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader, or use the infrared camera with facial recognition. The hinge in the new Dell XPS13 allows one-handed operation. The new XPS13 boasts 19 hours of battery life. With this device being small and mobile, Dell’s desire is for you to take this with you wherever you go and not worry about needing to charge.

The XPS13 incorporates Intel’s 10th gen 10nm processors to manage your experience with its Intel Dynamic Tuning Technology. This allows the device to predict and adapt the power of its CPU to optimize your workload.

Dell puts the finishing touch (literally) on the back of the device. The XPS logo is laser cut out of a sheet of stainless steel and placed into the recessed pocket by hand. The 2020 Dell XPS13 is a refinement on an already beautiful product, focusing on premium quality and leading lifestyle trends.
