Apple announces service program for AirPods Pro with crackling/static problems, ANC issues

Apple has just announced a worldwide service program for AirPods Pro units experiencing static or crackling sounds and problems with Active Noise Cancellation.

Affected AirPods were manufactured before October 2020, which means it covers a broad range of units. Apple says it only affects a "small percentage of AirPods Pro."

But if you think your earbuds are affected by this issue. Apple says it exhibits these problems:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise, or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

The program covers AirPods Pro units for two years after the first retail sale of the earbuds. You can take your pair to Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider to get it serviced free of charge. Apple will verify first if your unit is eligible for the program. Those demonstrating the issue (left, right, or both) will be replaced.
