Apple reveals new MacBook Air, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro 13-inch with Apple Silicon M1 chip
Apple's "One more thing," event unveiled today the latest Mac hardware now running on their own Apple Silicon processor and System on a Chip (SOC). Apple revealed that the M1 Chip will be made available on the MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, and the Mac mini. Making good on the promise that we would see the first Apple Silicon hardware before the year ends, Apple is touting its most integrated products yet. The M1 System on a Chip integrates 8-core processors, 8-core GPUs, RAM, the neural engine, and the secure enclave as well as other functions in a tiny 5 nanometer die.
Apple also explained that the new macOS Big Sur was developed particularly for Apple Silicon. It can run universal apps. Intel-based apps (using Rosetta 2), and even iOS mobile apps on the new M1-powered devices.
