LG Display to demo transparent OLED at CES 2021

Source: LG Display

LG Display's tech demonstration for the upcoming CES 2021 will showcase how its transparent OLED screens will fit in the age of a pandemic. LG will set up a few physical demos for its online showroom. One of the more prominent ones is in a sushi restaurant, where a 55-inch transparent OLED screen lets the diners browse the menu and watch videos while seeing the sushi chef prepare the meal in front of them. The screen serves as a hygienic partition between them.

Another demo has the same 55-inch transparent OLED panel at the foot of a "smart bed." It allows you to watch videos up close, without the panel blocking the view of the rest of the bedroom. It has "Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO)" so you don't have to worry about external speakers. This screen can also partially or fully tuck itself into its main body. In the partial mode, it can display information like time and weather. And since it's set up on wheels, you can move the panel into other rooms.

LG already showed off this tech in 2019 with a display at Harrods and then in Beijing and Shenzhen subways. The latter will also be showcased at CES 2021. It turned the train's windows into these transparent panels to let passengers look through travel updates, news, weather information, and more without obscuring the outside view.
