Rogers partners with Apple to loan iPads with free data plans to Winnipeg School Division

Rogers and Apple have announced that they will be helping out the Winnipeg School Division in Manitoba by lending iPads with free data plans to assist with remote learning. The iPads are seen as a secure and easy-to-use for the students studying at home because the COVID-19 pandemic has forced school closures.

Rogers is offering three months of free data on these cellular iPads, while Apple will also supply resources to teachers, parents, and students via free apps, books, and videos to help with home learning. The data plan is expected to cover the end of the current school year until summer. When classes resume, the loaner iPads will be used in classrooms.

“With our partnership with Rogers, we were able to bridge the equity and connectivity gap for 600 of our Winnipeg School Division families,” said Tony Marchione, acting director of Research/Planning and Technology, Winnipeg School Division, in a statement. “Schools are reporting that families receiving the devices with cellular capability are very appreciative and that students are now able to connect with their teachers online to help support their learning.”

Rogers and Apple have offered similar arrangements to the Cowichan Valley School District on Vancouver Island and students in Ontario.
