Facebook rolls out its redesigned desktop site worldwide

Maybe you've been waiting for a dark mode option to make its way to Facebook's desktop site. Well, your wait is over. Facebook has officially rolled out its new version to the majority of users around the world. Facebook said in a blog post that the new web experience is "faster, easier to use, and gives your eyes a break with dark mode." The overhaul is a significant one with plenty of empty space on the left and right rails, larger icons, the menu bar makes it easier to navigate to different parts of the app, and less clutter.

The redesign, which was unveiled at Facebook's F8 developer conference in 2019, was meant to put the focus on parts of the app people still used: events, groups, and messaging. With people using Facebook as a means to access private groups, messaging, and organizing large events, the company is making a pivot to make sure these needs are met. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has talked about how the company is working towards developing more privacy-focused products and features. And this redesign is one of those solutions.

You can access the new look by clicking on the down arrow at the end of the upper menu bar. There will be a "Switch to new Facebook" option there. The dark mode toggle is also accessible there. You can switch both back and forth to suit your needs.
