Nikon Canada introduces the Z 5 mirrorless camera
The Nikon Z 5 is the camera maker's newest full-frame, FX-format, entry-level camera from its Z series mirrorless camera range. And it's coming to Canada in late August with a suggested retail price of $2,049.95 for the body only and $2,449.95 for the new NIKKOR Z 24-50mm f/4-6.3 kit.
The Z 5 inherits features from the Z 6 and Z 7, supports Nikon's next-generation Z mount lens, and offers In-Body 5-Axis VR stabilization and "seamless automation and full manual control." It has the same magnesium alloy shell and robustness as the Z 6 and Z 7, with a durable, weather-sealed body that promises dust- and drip-resistance.
It comes with a powerful FX-format 24.3-megapixel CMOS sensor and Nikon's EXPEED 6 image processor, which the company claims is its fastest processor to date. The mirrorless camera also has an ISO range of up to 51,200 (expandable to 102,400), which is designed to effectively reduce noise and maintain both high sensitivity and resolution even in low-light situations. The Z 5 can record videos up to 4K UHD/30p or in 1080/60p (full-frame).
With shutter speeds of up to 1/8000, the Z 5 can capture fast-moving subjects with clarity, including fast-action sports and wildlife. And it can take full-resolution bursts at 4.5 frames per second with full AF/AE. This camera boasts 273 on-sensor AF points to quickly and accurately track subjects throughout the frame. It also offers Eye-Detection AF.
Equipped with two UHS-II card slots, it can handle widely available consumer SD cards to help with overflow, backup, or separating RAW and JPEG photos. And if you want to transfer photos or videos wirelessly, the Z 5 supports the Nikon SnapBridge app with the help of built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
You can check what you're photographing with the high-resolution 3.2-inch LCD monitor, which you can tilt, touch, tap, swipe, and pinch for intuitive and flexible user experience. At the same time, its 3.6M-dot Quad-VGA EVF allows you to see exposure, ISO, white balance, and creative picture controls as you shoot.
The new EN-EL15c battery powers the Z 5. This camera is the first Nikon camera to allow for constant power through the USB port. For additional juice and grip, the camera is also compatible with the MB-N10 hot-swappable battery pack.
Plus, when connected via the USB-C cord, the Z 5 can be used as a webcam, which is especially useful right now.
