5G could change mobile gaming

Technology is always evolving and getting better, and this has led to a lot of improvement in our daily lives over the last two decades or so. The pace of technological advancement has been the fastest over this time period than at any point in human history, and this is set to continue in the foreseeable future as well. With this in mind, we can look at one of the most exciting developments in the mobile and internet space, and the impact this will have on various facets of our mobile usage.

5G is the next step in mobile internet speed, and is set to be launched in many countries across the world in the next few months. 4G was a gamechanger when it was introduced, and 5G will have an even bigger impact, since the speed and bandwidth provided will be at par with that of fixed cable internet connections. We could even see 5G internet be used as the primary internet source in many households, replacing their fixed-line and WiFi connections. This is bound to have a huge impact on how people consume content on their phones, and is likely to increase the amount of internet usage for people on their mobile devices.

One part of the mobile phone industry that will be improved massively by the arrival of 5G internet is mobile gaming. Already, mobile gaming has become immensely popular over the last couple of years, to the extent that big game studios and developers now regularly launch mobile versions of their most popular games. However, the general consensus is that the introduction of 5G will be a game-changing moment for mobile gaming. Not just regular gaming, even online casino and mobile live casino games will be completely different on 5G.

The biggest factor here will be the sheer speed of the internet on 5G. This will allow cloud gaming to become a reality on mobile phones, much like it is being introduced to mainstream gaming at the moment. Through cloud gaming, people using ordinary smartphones will be able to play games with high-end graphics and processing requirements, which they would ordinarily not have been able to play. This is due to the magic of cloud computing, whereby the majority of the processing load will be taken up by servers and processors online, in the cloud, thus making the best mobile games accessible to more and more people. This will also encourage game studios to make games which are more detailed and need higher processing power, as they would know that cloud computing will allow these games to be played by more people.

For this experience to work, it is essential that the internet speed is extremely high. Every gamer knows the frustration and occasional anger that latency and lag bring about; even a one second delay between hitting a particular key and that action taking place in the game can ruin the game experience. Thus, 5G, which will be capable of going up to 50 Gbps in speed, will be able to handle these games and the load needed to communicate with cloud servers. This will also allow multiplayer games to thrive on mobile, which has so far been the preserve of console and PC gaming fans. Another benefit of 5G and cloud gaming will be that the strain on the phone itself will be lowered, increasing battery life and allowing people to continue playing for longer.

Some companies are already launching gaming phones, in a bid to stay ahead of the market once 5G comes to the mainstream. We could see a revolution in the way we use our phones once 5G is widespread, and this change will start from the games we play.
