Deadmau5 helps people relax and focus with new meditation app
World-renowned electronic music superstar Deadmau5 has teamed up with mobile application Calm creators to create the ultimate meditation and relaxation playlist.
While not particularly well known for the quiet, restive sounds that would typically be associated with rest and relaxation, the EDM star is more famous for the bright lights, loud music, and laser shows related to live electronic music performances. However, he has also built a reputation for finding and engaging with interesting and slightly unusual collaboration opportunities.
Not only has his music appeared in several video games, including the widely popular online multiplayer battle arena game Dota 2 (for which he made a custom soundtrack), he has also appeared as a playable character in DJ Hero 2. He appears as a secret unlockable character in 2014's off-the-wall Goat Simulator and is also a purchasable character in the Family Guy mobile game.
It doesn't stop there, the Canadian producer even made his own VR game titled Absolut Deadmau5, which was released in 2016, and also partnered up with Microgaming late last year to create his own official slot game titled "Deadmau5" that can be found on many online casinos in Canada such as Playamo and 7Bit Casino.
So while Deadmau5's music might not immediately lend itself to the idea of creating music for a meditation app, he certainly has set a precedent of succeeding outside of this comfort zone. He also appears to be a firm believer in music's power to create a relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for meditation and concentration.
Deadmau5 and Calm released his exclusive nine-track playlist titled "flow and focus" on 15 January, and it is packed with songs that heavily feature acoustic instruments, such as Monophobia, a song featuring Rob Swire that he initially released in 2018. The real selling point for Deadmau5 on a playlist like this is the immersive nature of many of his tracks. They tend to suck you in and not let go, leaving you clamouring for more by the end, in a relaxing way.
The deal is especially beneficial for Calm's creators as the app will now be exposed to the millions of fans around the world that love Deadmau5's work. On top of that, the deal isn't with Deadmau5 directly, but rather his record label mau5trap, which means they will have access to other artists signed to that label too.
It's no secret that 2020 was a very tough year for many people around the world and a big reason for Deadmau5 to create this playlist was to help people find calm and focus going into the new year. The idea is to help people power through and find new purpose this year, and it is likely to be very well received by potential users around the world.
Calm is ranked as the #1 app for sleep, meditation, and relaxation, in the world, with over 1.5 million 5-star reviews.
