WhatsApp is reportedly working on a Communities feature

New information revealed that WhatsApp might be working on introducing a Communities feature for its app. XDA Developers first spotted it last month, and now WABetaInfo has new data to corroborate that rumour.

It looks like the feature gives group admins more power over groups, like creating groups within groups. A function that is similar to how channels work within an Umbrella Discord community.

Admins can also invite new users via a Community Invite Link and then start messaging other members. It isn't clear how the chats will look right now, but WABetaInfo noted that conversations appear to be end-to-end encrypted.

There might also be subtle design changes to distinguish Communities from regular group chats. The community icon will feature a squircle design. It isn't clear, though, when WhatsApp will roll out this feature.
