Tencent purchases 'Back 4 Blood' developer Turtle Rock Studios
Tencent is acquiring another video game studio to add to its impressive roster. The company acquired Slamfire, the parent company of Back 4 Blood developer Turtle Rock Studios. The studio will be "retaining its independent operations" in California, with its existing leadership team staying on to run the studio.
It isn't clear what's coming up for Turtle Rock, but it wanted to emphasize its commitment to Back 4 Blood. With the acquisition, the developer said in a blog post, "... we get to do something we have never done before as a studio: turn a universe we created into a true long-standing AAA franchise. We can now ensure that the Back 4 Blood franchise is here to stay and we will be working on it well into the future."
If you're unfamiliar with Tencent, it owns many studios behind some of the biggest games, including League of Legends, Call of Duty: Mobile, and Pokémon Unite. It also has a 40 percent stake in Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite and the Unreal Engine.
