Clubhouse's Android launch might be 'a couple of months' away

It might take a month or two before the social audio app Clubhouse makes its way to Android. During a weekly Townhall event on Sunday, the company's co-founder Paul Davison said Clubhouse is working "really hard" to bring the app to Android, but it might take a "couple of months" to make that happen. This is the closest we're getting to a time frame for the app's release on Android, as previous statements from the company were vague.

Davison explained that Clubhouse's approach to scaling to a larger market, much like the Android ecosystem, requires a slower place. He noted how the discovery experience inside the app can be negatively impacted by its growth. He said that users today are finding more foreign language groups in their feeds while having a hard time looking for friends or the "best content."

To address these problems and help it succeed even as it scales up, Clubhouse plans to make some changes. These changes include tweaking the app's Activity feed, giving users access to better control over push notifications, and more personalization options (like giving users a personalized list of suggested rooms when they first open the app).

Clubhouse hopes to drop its invite-only status "in the coming months." He wants to open it up to everyone as there are "so many incredible creators not yet on Clubhouse, who have an audience elsewhere."

"It's going to be really important that we just open up to everyone," Davison said. "Android's going to be really important. Localization is obviously going to be very important."

He also mentioned making Clubhouse more accessible is essential, too.

For now, any Clubhouse app you might see on the Play Store isn't from the company. Some cybercriminals have even used this to create fake Clubhouse apps that trick users into downloading malicious apps, so please take extra caution.
