iOS 14 might use Find My to prevent you from being stalked
Apple's Find My feature is useful for locating lost Apple devices. Now, it looks like it could be used to prevent someone from using trackers or other accessories from stalking you. Item Safety Alerts feature makes a reappearance in the iOS 14.5 beta, which will inform you if an unknown device being tracked on Find My is "moving with you." It seems to be your safety net for when a Find My-compatible device is kept in your person or in your belongings so someone else can track your movements.
Item Safety Alerts was found in an early version of iOS 14.3 but was then taken out. This setting is enabled by default, and as The Verge pointed out, it looks like Apple wants you to keep it on. If you turn off the feature, you'll get an alert that warns you how unknown devices can see your location, and you won't receive a notification if an "unknown item" is found with you.
Apple has plans to open its Find My feature to third-party accessories, so it seems like a smart move to have this feature available. Apple has also been rumoured to be developing its own tracker called AirTags, and this might be a way to counteract any misuse of these gadgets.
