The City of Calgary and Waze partner for Cities Data Program
The City of Calgary has just announced a two-way, data-sharing partnership with Waze for publicly available traffic information. Waze's Cities Data program aims to create "greater efficiency, deeper insights, and safer roads."
Calgary's Traffic Management Centre (TMC) can use tools like Waze to improve traffic flow and let citizens know about traffic impacts, road closures, and construction quickly.
According to a press release, "Waze for Cities Data will give Calgary's TMC an unprecedented look at real-time road activity, the ability to harness real-time driver insights to improve congestion and make better-informed planning decisions."
Waze will provide real-time, anonymous, user-generated incident and traffic information from the Calgary drivers and passengers themselves. In return, The City of Calgary will supply real-time, government-reported construction, road closure, and crash data to Waze.
Waze for Cities Data can help local citizens avoid road closures and traffic jams. At the same time, The City of Calgary can further offer Waze users in the area advance notice on any major traffic events that might affect their routes. And during emergency situations, users can check the app for the latest information on road closures to make sure they travel safely during potentially hazardous conditions.
