Huawei introduces new MatePad Pro, MatePad 11

As Huawei unveiled its new HarmonyOS 2.0 software, the company unveiled new tablets, with its flagship offering ready to take on premium tablets from Samsung and Apple.

The new Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 and 10.8 bring us our first look at HarmonyOS for tablets. The larger display allows the company to incorporate multi-task-friendly features and multi-screen collaboration with other Huawei devices, like its phones and laptops.

The home screen on the MatePad Pro looks more like a desktop with a dock, widgets, control panel, and focus on reachability, where it shifts all in-app function bars to the side. It also gets improved mouse support with live app previews, which reinforces the desktop-like experience. It supports a Mirror mode with Huawei laptops, where you can use the tablet as a drawing device in apps like Photoshop or use it as a secondary display.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 12.6 is equipped with a 12.6-inch OLED display with 2,560 x 1,600 resolution and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the MatePad Pro 10.8 has an IPS LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel supports HDR 10 content playback and covers the entire DCI-P3 colour gamut. They have eight harman/kardon-tuned speakers and four microphones with voice pick-up up to five meters.

The 12.6-inch model runs on Huawei's Kirin 9000E processor, while the smaller tablet runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset. Both have 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage.

Their selfie camera is placed in the middle of the side bezel, further reinforcing the traditional laptop experience for video calls. There are three cameras on the back with a dedicated 3D depth sensor.

Both tablets support the Huawei M-Pencil, which the company also refreshed to get a new platinum-coated nib for high-precision writing and ultra-low latency.

The MatePad Pro 12.6 comes with a 10,000mAh battery, which supports 40W fast wired charging, 27W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless. Meanwhile, the MatePad Pro 10.8 has a 7,250mAh battery.

The new MatePad Pros are available in gray, green and white. The MatePad Pro 12.6 will retail for EUR 799 (around CAD 1,175). Huawei will announce its availability and the pricing for the 10.8-inch variant and other regions later.
