How to Declutter Your Home: An Easy-To-Follow Guide

Over the past year, most of the world’s population has been stuck at home due to the pandemic. Naturally, this has meant that some homes have become a little unorganized. Whether its clothes being scattered around every room, or kitchen cutlery being misplaced, it’s easy for homes to get out of control – especially when you’re spending more time indoors.

However, decluttering your home is easily achievable, even for those who have no experience in cleaning and consider themselves to be unorganized individuals.

If you’re ready, let’s jump into this easy-to-follow guide that will start you on the journey to decluttering your home.

1.   Be super smart by using a storage facility

In the modern era, nearly everyone has a ton of possessions that have built-up over a lifetime. There are laptops, computers, old clothes, books from your college days, memorabilia from your grandparents – you name it, people have it.

The slight problem with this is that, unless you live in a million-dollar mansion, it can often be difficult to find space for these items – hence the reason why many homes become cluttered.

One of the best solutions to this is buying or renting a storage facility space. You might be surprised to know that doing this isn’t as expensive as you would imagine – in fact, it’s very affordable. At a storage facility, you’ll be able to store your items safely and securely, which is particularly useful when you have items that don’t fit in your home or garage.

There are likely many storage facilities available near you, so make sure to check them out.

2.   Use a recycling bin

Being eco-friendly is very important, these days. And there’s no better place to start than your home.

Here, you can include a recycling bin (or bins) that will help you to keep your home organized – as you’ll know longer have those annoying cardboard boxes and plastic bottles scattered around. Plus, you’re helping the environment, so it’s a win-win situation.

3.   Sell your unwanted items online

Most houses are filled with items that remain unused, or don’t bring any true value to the owner anymore.

You might have some old coats and jackets that you no longer wear, or a game console that you haven’t played for a couple of years.

Instead of these possessions taking up valuable space, you should sell them online. There are many e-commerce platforms you can use, from eBay to even social media platforms.

Here, you’ll be able to list these items, make some money, and declutter your home in the process – what’s not to love?

4.   Donate your items to charity organizations or give them away to friends and family

If you aren’t interested in making a profit from your old items, you can be kind to your community by donating them to a charity – such as one dedicated to helping the homeless or those in desperate financial need.

Alternatively, you could give away your items to friends or family. This is perhaps the quickest way to declutter your house, as your friends and family will highly likely say yes – after all, who doesn’t like free giveaways?
