Nothing launches ear (1) TWS earbuds

Source: Nothing

Nothing, a consumer tech startup from OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei, has just unveiled its first product, the ear (1) true wireless earbuds. In a statement, Pei calls these TWS buds will "[set] the tone for our connected digital world to come." He has previously talked about plans to build an ecosystem of devices, so expect to see different products from the brand.

The ear (1)'s are distinctive with their transparent plastic design. You get a glimpse of their internal circuitry, and each bud has a colour-coded circle (red or white) to indicate the corresponding ear. Even the Qi-compatible charging case is transparent so that you can see the buds through it. The buds themselves are IPX4 water-resistant so that they can withstand some sweat and light splashes.

These new buds have 11.6mm drivers with hardware and software tuned by Swedish electronics company Teenage Engineering. The ear (1)'s offer Active Noise Cancellation that you can adjust to suit your surroundings. Each bud has three mics to help make this happen and, of course, to help you with calls.

Battery life is a bit longer at up to 34 hours with the case and 5.7 hours from a single charge if you have ANC off. When it's on, you get a respectable 24 hours and four hours, respectively.

As we've seen on other earbuds, the ear (1)s get tap and gesture controls, which you can customize via a companion app. The app also comes with EQ and Find My Earbuds features. These buds support Bluetooth 5.2, and fast pairing is available for compatible Android devices.

The Nothin ear (1) earbuds will be available in 45 countries at USD 99. Nothing is selling a limited batch on its website starting July 31, with a general sale kicking off on August 17.
