Zoom's Focus mode hopes to lessen virtual classroom distractions

As online schooling and virtual classrooms still exist in many parts of the world, Zoom is hoping to help teachers keep the attention of easily distracted kids—at the very least, they won't see their classmates' antics. The app is getting a new Focus mode that looks like it is available even with free accounts.

When Focus mode is activated, the meeting's participants won't see each other's videos or screen shares except for the host's. Meanwhile, the host will continue to see everyone's webcam. While participants or students won't see their classmates, they will still be able to see any videos or screen shares the host spotlights and the names and emoji reactions of their fellow students.

According to Zoom's Focus mode support article, the feature can be enabled or locked on for accounts, groups, or individual users. When you allow it for your account, you can access it through the More button while you're in a meeting.
